Davis Park is primarily inhabited by older singles, that hold civilized, mature cocktail parties on their respective decks. There is also a famous club called The Casino which is now being rebuilt after our last bout with Mother Nature. Davis Park is basically family oriented. A great place to bring the kids. Beach houses can be rented at a fairly reasonable price.
Davis Park is operated by the Town of Brookhaven. It consists of a town operated Marina, with boat slips, power and water for vessels from 16 feet up
to about 50 feet. The town park is immediately adjoined by Leja Beach and Ocean Ridge, which are now collectively referred to as Davis Park. There is a newly renovated grocery store and snack bar, public restrooms with Cold Showers. The "Casino" is a restaurant/bar situated directly on Atlantic Ocean. It is the only place of its kind on Fire Island. There is an outside deck right on the ocean and an inside bar/dance floor. There is also a casual dining restaurant, again, right on the Ocean. It is a
beautiful spot to have a relaxing drink, dine, talk with friends, or just watch the sunset.
Davis Park, like all of Fire Island, is situated on one of the world's most beautiful beaches. It consists of miles and miles of pure, white sand, with nothing but beach grass, and other assorted plants holding it all together. The community has professional lifeguards on duty all Season long. You can frequently see deer actually walking on the boardwalks, no longer afraid of people.
The most beautiful part of Davis Park, like most of Fire Island, is that there are no cars, except for the rare official or
construction 4x4. Imagine Cape Cod, with no roads or cars, accessible only by boat. That is Fire Island, and we New Yorkers relish it. It's only 90 minutes East of Midtown Manhattan, but a "world away" from the hustle and bustle of the City.
There is regular ferry service to Davis Park from the Sandspit Marina in Patchogue. By train take the Long Island Railroad to the Patchogue Station. Take a cab, or walk, (about 15
mins) down Cedar to the Bay. Right on Brightwood Street. Ferry Terminal is at the Town of Brookhaven, Sandspit Marina. Ample parking for cars, reasonable parking fees.
The crowd here is divided into 3 groups, boaters, day-trippers, and "landlubbers" (those who stay in the many beach houses that are either rented or owner occupied.) Boaters tend to be family oriented, as do those who occupy the houses. Day-trippers are mixed. Davis Park is the Easternmost "community" on Fire Island with residential homes. The crowd is a mix of young and middle aged family types, along with younger single people over for the beach or casino.
P.S. - There is NO gambling at the "Casino".
